Tracking Champion

Star had a hard start in life being the only survivor of a litter of 8 puppies.  Consequently she has always been a self-centred dominant dog even from a young age.

Tracking gave Star a way to use up all the excess energy in a positive way while having fun in the bush.  After the initial training around the local parks Star ventured to her first tracking trial competition at Bushland Beach north of Townsville. After several attempts and many fun tracks through the bush Star gained her Tracking Dog title at the age of 3.  She then continued in a very hit and miss fashion eventually gaining her tracking dog excellent title at the age of 7.

The big achievement in her tracking career was last year when she got her tracking champion title on Geoff Toomby’s property at Alice River. It was a beautiful May morning when we set off on the track closely followed by the judge Debbie Lamprecht and Steward Carolyn Lynn. Star set off down the track at a fast pace pausing to return and indicate the first article, she then rounded the first turn and set off again, after a couple more turns she indicated the third article having missed the second article and then things got difficult. We were close to the area where we had entered the track and also close to the exit area (the judge told me afterwards) and both the judge and steward were unsure where the track went. Having tracked for several years by this time I did as all tracking handlers should do and let the dog find the bait which she did much to the amazement of the judge, steward and me. It all goes to show you should always trust your dog. Well done my little Star Tracking Champion.
